Walking

walking for health
There are many benefits to walking; it is fast becoming the new mode of keeping fit and maintaining exercise for many different population groups.

There is strong evidence to show that physical activity such as walking helps to get the heart and muscles working and thus can lead to an increased life expectancy.

Walking can be enough exercise to maintain a fit and healthy body no matter how old you are.

Thirty minutes of walking at a moderate pace five days a week can sustain fitness.

Walking can:

  • make you feel good and give you more energy
  • help you sleep
  • reduce stress
  • aid mobility and help you manage your weight
  • help to maintain a strong heart and avoid a cardiovascular incident
  • reduce blood pressure and problems associated with hypertension
  • help you meet new people
  • help keep the environment clean by leaving the car behind and walking any short journeys.
