The Council, in association with Transport for London (TfL) can offer several initiatives to support the development of workplace travel plans and to encourage sustainable travel to work. These incentives are available to most workplaces in the public and private sector, with the exception of schools, which are provided with their own support programmes. Further and higher education institutions and nurseries are eligible to apply for funding.
'A New Way to Work' is a recently-launched TfL initiative, which guides a business through the process of implementing, using and monitoring a travel plan. The 'Enterprise' scheme allows small to medium sized businesses (generally between 25 and 250 employees, though there is some flexiblity) to access expert advice and assistance. Enterprise can provide funding for cycle parking and other travel facilities and a range of free promotional materials, including merchandise for employees, as part of a London-wide travel awareness campaign. A similar 'Corporate' scheme exists for larger employers, which offers significant support and funding for a package of travel measures appropriate to the needs of the site and the business.

Businesses who demonstrate a commitment to encouraging sustainable travel but are not eligible for or not interested in 'A New Way to Work' can still benefit from TfL's 'Challenge' funding and 'Take a Stand' initiative .
Take a Stand provides businesses with up to 20 free Sheffield cycle stands, with the employers only having to pay for installation.
Guidance on best practice in the placing and fitting of cycle stands is available through London Cycle Design Standards and downloadable in the reports library at www.tfl.gov.uk/cycling. The link below may be of use.
Challenge funding is available for businesses who need some financial assistance to implement sustainable travel measures, such as showers, lockers, a car share database or a cover for cycle parking facilities. The maximum amount of funding per organisation is £5,000, with an average grant of around £1,000. Projects must guarantee delivery of matched funding (which can include 'in kind' contributions) to be eligible for funding.
For further information or to apply for these initiatives, please contact the Workplace Travel Plan team by telephone on 020 8547 5760 or by email at travel.plans@rbk.kingston.gov.uk .
