Spring is the perfect time to get your bicycle out the shed (make sure it’s safe to ride before taking it on the roads!). Cycling to work is a fantastic way to improve your health and fitness. It is often the quickest way for short journeys such as those to work, as bicycles are less affected by traffic congestion and also have a more consistent journey time. And it can often save you money – no car parking fees, no petrol, no bus or train fares!

On Thursday 9 June, Kingston Council and the Kingston Primary Care Trust will jointly host “Workers on Wheels”, a seminar aimed at employers and employees who want to get more involved in cycling.
The seminar is divided into two information sessions – one for employers wanting to make their workplace more cycle friendly and one for employees who are looking for encouragement to help them start cycling to work.
Join us for lunch, the launch of the “Cycle 50% Club” and a “Bike Try-out Road show” to give you the opportunity to find a bicycle that’s perfect for your commute to work.
For more information regarding time, venue and the agenda, please contact the Council’s Travel Awareness Officer on 020 8547 5876 or email anne.sharman@rbk.kingston.gov.uk. Seating is limited so you will need to RSVP to reserve a space!
Whether you've not ridden for years, never ridden at all or want to master on-road situations, Adult Cyclist Training is for you!

Run over three weekday evenings during the spring and summer months, this course provides a safe, social and supportive environment to help you achieve your aims and build your confidence. Due to high number of instructors at each course, classes are tailored to match the needs of each individual.
Our next course will be held in Chessington on Thursday 7 July, Thursday 14 July and Thursday 21 July.
Though we recommend you have your own road worthy bicycle for this course, a limited number are available for loan.
For further information about any of our Cyclist Training courses, or to make a reservation, please call the Council’s Cyclist Training Co-ordinator on 020 8547 5826.

To further celebrate walking in the borough, the Road Safety and Travel Awareness Unit are joining forces with the Walking for Health Scheme on Thursday 26 May. Visit the display stand in the Market Place any time between 12noon and 2pm, for walk-related information and free health checks courtesy of the Kingston Primary Care Trust.
You’ll also be able to take part in a Walking for Health taster session.
