What is good going?

The Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames is taking a lead on a London wide travel awareness campaign called good going.

We can improve the health and quality of life for everyone living, working, visiting or being educated in London by reducing traffic congestion and vehicle emissions in the Capital.

Through good going, the Council and its partners will promote a wide range of initiatives designed to encourage us to walk, cycle or to use public transport instead of the car, when possible.

And to car share or use low pollution vehicles when this is an option.

A large number of good going initiatives and activities will be rolled out in Kingston upon Thames in the weeks and months ahead. And this newsletter will keep you in touch with them.

Individuals from all sectors of the Royal Borough will be encouraged to play their part by formally signing the good going pledge.

How to make your pledge to good going

The good going pledge lies at the heart of good going .

It allows individuals and organisations to pledge their support to reducing traffic congestion and vehicle emissions.

Signing up to good going

You can sign up at any good going event or initiative or online at www.goodgoing.co.uk.

If you would like bulk copies of the pledge application form for work colleagues to complete, please email your details to goodgoing@towerhamlets.gov.uk

The good going loyalty card

Everyone who makes a pledge receives a good going loyalty card which gives them London wide and borough specific offers and incentives organised by Transport for London (TfL).

There will also be ‘lottery- style’ prize draws for pledge cardholders and cardholders will receive regular information on the good going campaign.

good going week

good going week is being held across London from 15 to 22 September. The Council’s Road Safety and Travel Awareness Unit has organised a range of events. The events will encourage people to think about the link that exists between using sustainable transport and reducing traffic congestion, traffic related illness, as well as noise and air pollution.

They highlight different travel choices, be they walking, cycling, public transport or car sharing.

The week aims to make people realise that every little bit helps – leaving the car at home just once a week and catching a bus or train, or walking to the local shop to buy the paper instead of driving.

Using an alternative to the car – even just every now and then – is what we call good going!
