29 April
27 May
24 June
29 July
26 August

We usually meet outside Borders bookshop, Market Place, Kingston at 10am.

All you will need to do is show up with your bike and our National Standard Cycle Instructors will be on hand to support you and give advice.

There will be treats for all children!

Personalised Travel Planning Update

Thanks to the residents in the New Malden area that took part in the PTP project.  We had a 40% uptake of the project in the area with some positive results.
There was a lot of interest in cycle training which ties in with the increase in cycling over the last four years as there has been a 50% increase in cycle trips over Kingston Bridge!
There are 6 points that are routinely monitored within the borough and as a result of this monitoring Kingston has been classed in a league with Cambridge and York as a town centre where there are high cycling rates.

As with anything where more people are involved we need to remind people that they should not cycle on the pavement and they should be courteous to other road users.

If you don’t feel confident cycling on the road then book in for a one to one cycle training session on

020 8547 5865 or email travel.awareness@rbk.kingston.gov.uk

News: good going week 2006

A number of successful events were organised as part of good going week 2006 (15-24 September).
The Road Safety and Travel Awareness Unit at Kingston Council hosted 14 events and activities throughout the borough.

Amongst the events was Car Free Day where the Mayor travelled around the borough using sustainable transport.

Other events organised as part of the week included a Dr Bike session in the town centre, a Women on Wheels Information Evening, a led walk along the Hogsmill River and a tree planting ceremony to launch the Autumn Walk to School campaign.

Safe and Fuel Efficient Driving

SAFED is a complementary driver development course, consisting of assessment and training. It intends  to improve the safe and fuel efficient driving skills of Light Commercial Vehicle drivers. It therefore should complement a much broader programme of commercial vehicle fleet efficiency management.

Safer driving means:

  • Less injuries and fatalities on our roads
  • Less accident damage to vehicles
  • Less unproductive downtime for vehicle repair
  • The potential for reduced insurance premiums

Fuel efficiency means:

  • Lower costs
  • Improved profit margins
  • Reduced emissions
  • Improved environmental performance

The SAFED training course is open to all those in England who drive vans as part of their employment.     A network of trainers will be developed throughout England so that local trainers will be available.
