Transport for London’s good going campaign, in partnership with the London Cycling Campaign, Cycle Touring Club, Sustrans and London Cycle Sport is offering £150,000 in grants to support community groups holding local rides, events or small scale projects.
The aim of the community grant is to contribute to the resources needed by local groups to hold events or start projects which promote the benefits of cycling in their neighbourhood. The criteria for funding challenges local groups to address key target groups and issues arising from the most recent market research of attitudes to cycling conducted by TfL.
The next deadline for grant applications is 31 July. For more information, see www.kingston.gov.uk/goodgoing or call the Travel Awareness Officer on 020 8547 5876.
From 25 June to 9 July, a team of cyclists from the Royal Borough of Kingston are cycling from Land’s End to John O’Groats (1,000+ miles in 15 Stages), in aid of Asian earthquake relief.
More than 20 employees came forward to take part, volunteering to train to complete several stages. Five will aim to ride the whole distance.
Each employee is using their annual leave to have the time available to take part.
The event has been given the title e2e4e - 'End to End for Earthquake'. It will raise money for two charities, the British Red Cross – Asian Earthquake Appeal, and the Fountain House Lahore Project.
All the riders will be raising funds for our two charitable projects and funds raised will be passed to Fountain House Project and the British Red Cross in September 2006.
For information about the e2e4e challenge or how you can sponsor a rider, call the Project Manager, James Parker, on 020 8547 5923.
