Cycle and Shelter Planning Applications for Schools

Current policy requires that planning permission must be obtained prior to the installation of a cycle parking facility or similar construction on your school site. The planning process can take up to eight weeks from when the planning application is accepted by our planning department, to allow for public consultation.

How do I submit a planning application?

You will need to provide:

1. The appropriate fee as of 1/1/2010

£170 payable by:

2. A completed Planning Application form

Four Copies (original plus three)

3. Site Plans

Four Copies (original plus three) of all of the following

  • Site Location Plan
    at scale of either 1:1250 or 1:2500. This is a technical drawing that gives an overview of the premises and surrounding area - the whole school site must appear on the plan and be highlighted in red. Site location plans are available free from your School Travel Plan Advisor.  
  • Block Plan
    at a scale of at least 1:500. This is a technical drawing that gives a closer view of the location of the proposed works within the site. The Block view should show any surrounding premises and include both the existing and proposed features of the site e.g fences, roads, trees etc. Block location plans are available free from your School Travel Plan Advisor.
  • Design Drawings to Include Proposed Elevations
    at a scale of 1:50 or 1:100 at A3 or A4. These are technical drawings of the facility you wish to install. Proposed Elevation Plans should be provided by your the supplier e.g. Broxap.

4. Design and Access Statement

Four Copies (original plus three)

  • Design and Access Statement
  • Also include the technical specification for the particular type of shelter being installed. Search for your shelter on the website below. Copy and paste the description provided. See example below.
  • If your shelter is povided by a company other than broxap you should contact the supplier for the specifications

5. Flood Risk Assessment

Required if your site is identified as being at risk - see link below to check your status
