Kingston Council offers free School Travel Planning advice and support service for those schools implementing or developing a Travel Plan.
A School Travel Plan must meet criteria set by the department for Education and Skills (DfES) and the Department for Transport (DfT). If a plan meets these criteria a senior officer in both Education and Transport signs off the plans on behalf of the Royal Borough of Kingston.
All LEA schools are entitled to a capital grant.
| Primary school: | £3750 plus per pupil |
| Secondary school: | £5000 plus per pupil |
In addition, all LEA schools are now entitled to claim from a Small Grants Fund for minor works identified through the School Travel Plan.
Travel Plans will be accepted by the Travel Plan Officer at any stage of the year. The grants are paid in July each year for new Travel Plans submitted before March, it is recommended you submit a draft Travel Plan by December.
Once a Travel Plan has been approved the Council is able to bid on behalf of the school for additional funding to implement the plan.
