- allows child to develop important road awareness and safety skills
- less time spent sitting in traffic congestion
- provides travel options that a free or cheaper than using a private car

For employees:

- cycling or walking to work provides an opportunity for daily exercise
- become more aware of the range of travel options available, many of which are cheaper / more convenient / less time consuming than driving

For schools:

- relieve / overcome parking pressures
- free up land currently used for parking for better use
- assist with forthcoming planning applications (a school seeking to expand may be required to produce a formal Travel Plan to the local planning authority as part of the application)
- overcome accessibility problems
