School Travel Plans aim to reduce the number of trips made to and from the school by car.
Traffic congestion and traffic pollution are increasing and the Council is committed to finding ways of decreasing the use of the private car and making our roads safer for children and our environment cleaner.
By developing a Travel Plan schools are encouraged to identify and solve problems associated with the school journey.A School Travel Plan provides one solution to these problems. For further information please email travel.awareness@rbk.kingston.gov.uk or call 020 8547 5865.
A School Travel Plan:-
Travel Plan actions range from cycle promotions or training to providing cycle parking, from Green Cross Code lessons to building a new Pelican crossing.
Did you know?: The Department for Education and Skills and the Department for Transport have set a National target for all schools to have a Travel Plan by 2010. The Mayor of London has set this target for 2009.
A School Travel Plan must meet criteria set by the department for Education and Skills (DfES) and the Department for Transport (DfT).
If a plan meets these criteria a senior officer in both Education and Transport signs off the plans on behalf of the Royal Borough of Kingston.

Schools that qualify for each level will receive a certificate and plaque for your foyer and you will able to use the logo/kitemark on all correspondence.
