The First United Nations Global Road Safety Week will be held from 23 – 29 April 2007.
The theme for this week is young road users; pedestrians, cyclists, motorcyclists, novice drivers and passengers as more than 40% of all road deaths occur among young people under 25 years of age.
The key global event that will launch the week will be the World Youth Assembly for Road Safety, bringing young people from many countries around the world to discuss and adopt a youth declaration on road safety and how they think the world’s roads can be made safer especially for young people.
The slogan for the Week is "Road Safety is No Accident" in the hope that this highlights the fact that road safety campaigns and initiatives do not occur by accident. They are in fact deliberate efforts on the part of many individuals and many sectors of society - governmental and nongovernmental alike.
