In 2004 a road safety and travel awareness drama project for pupils aged 13 - 14 years old, in Year 9 at secondary school, was developed and piloted at Coombe Girls' School in New Malden.
The scheme involved the students exploring road safety issues and their consequences through drama and Personal and Social Education. The students then produced and performed a number of playlets.
The drama scheme was designed to teach awareness of the risks facing drivers, passengers and pedestrians, and to encourage the ability to resist peer group pressure and the acceptance of individual responsibility for safety.
The scheme has been very successful and enjoyed by the students involved across the borough.
In 2006 students at Tolworth Girls' School received an award for the posters they created as part of this scheme.
