Road Safety Advisory Committee

The Council has a Road Safety Advisory Committee, made up of elected members and advisory representatives with an interest in road safety in Kingston.  The current Committee Chair is Councillor Chrissie Hitchcock.

The advisory representatives are from the Police, residents groups, teachers and specific road user groups.  The Committee is always pleased to receive applications from other groups wishing to join and is particularly keen to see a greater representation of young people.

The Committee’s Terms of Reference are as follows:

  • To oversee the development and implementation of road safety training education and awareness programmes for all sections of the community designed to achieve the casualty reduction targets set by the Council.
  • To review the nature of road accidents on the borough's highways and provide advice to the Executive and Environment Overview Panel on road safety issues and promotion programmes.
  • To develop financial and participative partnerships to enable all to become involved in increasing the awareness of the potential dangers of road transport.
  • To manage the road safety education and training budget including contributions through financial partnerships.
  • To prepare an annual report on the work of the Road Safety Committee including progress in achieving the road casualty reduction targets.

The Committee meets three times a year at the Guildhall in Kingston. The next meeting will be held in July 2007.
