2005 Casualty Report

Greater London 2005

In 2005 there were 26,742 road traffic collisions reported to the police within Greater London.  This represents a 7% decrease compared with 2004.

As a result of these incidents there were 31,830 casualties, of these there were 214 fatalities; 3,436 serious injuries; and 28,180 slight injuries.

Fatalities in 2005 fell by 1% from 216 to 214 compared with 2004.  Serious injuries decreased by 13% and slight injuries decreased by 7%.
This represents an overall redution in casualties of 8% compared with 2004.

Kingston upon Thames 2005

In 2005 the number of road casualties in the borough stood at 468, representing an increase of 1.5% compared to 2004.  Of these 3 people were killed, 60 seriously injured and 405 slightly injured.

Pedestrians casualties
There was a reduction of 9.1% in overall pedestrian casualties in 2005, compared to 2004.  The overall number of pedestrians involved in collisions was 60, one of which was fatal, 16 serious and 43 slight injuries.

Pedal Cyclists casualties
There was no change in overall casualties in 2005 compared to 2004, and no fatalities reported. However there were 7 serious injuries and 42 slight injuries - this is an increase compared to 2004.

Powered two Wheeler (P2W) casualties
In 2005 the was a slight increase in P2W casualties of 1.4% from 2004.  This includes one fatality, 11 serious injuries - a decrease from 2004 - and 63 slight injuries compared to 58 in the previous year.

Car Occupant casualties
During 2005 there was a decrease of 0.8% of casualties from 2004.  There was 1 fatal injury, 22 serious injuries and 218 slight injuries.
