There were 28,756 road traffic collisions reported to the Metropolitan and City Police within the Greater London area during 2004. This represents a 9.6% decrease compared with 2003.
As a result of these incidents there were 34,555 casualties. 208 were fatally injured; 3,658 were seriously injured and 24,890 were slightly injured.
Fatalities in 2004 have fallen by 19.7% from 259 to 208 compared with 2003. Serious injuries decreased by 18.9% and slight injuries decreased by 8%. Overall, casualties in 2004 decreased by 10.1% compared with 2003.
The road casualty toll in 2004 stands at 461. This represents an overall reduction of 12.2% compared with 2003. In 2004, there were 4 people who were killed. 60 people were seriously injured, and there were 397 slight injuries.
There were no reductions in overall casualties in 2004 compared to 2003, with the overall number standing at 49, although there was 1 fatal accident in 2004 compared to 0 in 2003.

There was a reduction in the number of pedestrians who were killed and seriously injured in 2004 of 28.3% from 92 casualties to 66. A breakdown of the 2002, 2003, 2004 comparison is shown below.

There was a 32.1% decline in the number of powered two wheelers casualties compared with 2003. There was one fatality which is an increase on 2003 but the number of serious and slight injuries decreased as shown in the table below.
