The EcoSTARS (formerly the RoadSTARS) were brought into being and are facilitated by Kingston Council’s Climate Change and Sustainable Travel Group. Made up from year 10 and 12 students from our secondary schools, they have traditionally focused on projects relating to road safety and travel awareness. This year they have a wider remit and will be considering a range of environmental issues including eco-footprinting, climate change and green transport.
Over a three year period they have come up with many exciting and innovative projects including roadside murals, radio adverts, a cinema advert and even their own fashionable cycle clothing. In 2008 they received a Prince Michael International Road Safety Award for Education and Training.
