Safety cameras, or speed cameras, at the roadside means that four or more fatal or serious injury collisions have occured at that spot within a three year period, and 30% of drivers have been observed speeding there.
Every day in London, one person is killed and ten seriously injured in road crashes. One in three involves speeding.
The London Safety Camera Partnership (LSCP) is working to achieve casualty reduction targets set out in London’s Road Safety Plan (November 2001).
This includes a commitment to reduce the number of people killed and seriously injured on the roads by 40% by 2010, and a reduction in the number of child casualties by 50%. LSCP has been responsible for implementing all new camera sites in London since its inception in April 2002.

There are currently more than 90 sites across the borough, 12 of these have signs permanently attached and the remainder have signs rotated on an ongoing basis.
