Throughout the year, the Group works to keep the anti-drink drive message at the forefront of all road users in Kingston, succeeding through a combination of powerful information, publicity and educational campaigns (including school theatre) and effective enforcement by police and courts.
Driving under the influence of drugs is dangerous and selfish. Taking drugs will impair driving skills. Driving whilst under the influence of drugs is extremely dangerous and can affect driving in numerous ways. Police are being tasked more and more on drug driving offences and have ways of prosecuting a driver who is unfit through drug use.
On 27 February 2007 the penalty for using your mobile phone while driving increased to a £60 fine and three penalty points on your licence, which could increase to £1000 if the case
goes to court. We all know that using a mobile phone whilst driving is against the law however many people still continue to try to do both!
Recent studies by Think! and Direct Line show that you are 4 times more likely to have a crash if you are using a mobile phone while driving, and in fact, if you use any type of mobile phone, hands-free or hand-held, while driving your reaction times are worse than if you drive under the influence of alcohol.
In the event of a road crash or collision, wearing a seat belt greatly reduces the risk of harm to car occupants, and is a legal requirement.

There are over 3 million people riding horses on public roads and much progress has been made to improve rider safety in recent years. Educating motorists as to the care needed when encountering horses on the road is an important aspect of improving the safety of the horse rider. The British Horse Riding and Road Safety Test has helped greatly in raising the safety of riders on the road. Introduced in 1976, some 7,000 riders now take this test annually.
