Skip licences are not issued to the public. Skip licences are applied for and issued to pre-registered and approved skip companies. Skip companies only need a license to put a skip on the highway; they do not need a license if the skip is being placed on private property.
Skip companies are required to be pre-registered and approved before they are able to place a skip on the public highway. A Registration Application Pack will be sent to the skip company on request. (The covering letter and application form is available at the bottom of this page or a pack may be requested by contacting us on the details provided below).
The application form and other required information (eg public liability insurance certificate), is returned to us for approval. Once approved, the skip company is then able to purchase as many skip licence application forms as they require.
Application forms are only issued after payment has been made. An application form is usually faxed and we would expect to respond within 1 day of receipt.
Since the 1 September 2001 the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames adopted a registration policy for skip companies under a pre-pay licence scheme. All skip companies which deposit skips on the Highway within the Borough will be required to formally register with RBK. The registration of companies will help us in our administration of licensing and also help us to identify and prosecute unlicensed skip companies.
Un-registered skip companies will not be allowed to place skips on the highway and will be committing an offence. We will prosecute any companies which are not registered and deposit skips on the highway.
