Kingston Borough Sports Awards 2011

Sporting achievement, effort and commitment were celebrated at a special awards evening held at the newly rebuilt Chessington Community College.

The borough sports awards are the highest accolade given by the Borough to recognise achievement and services to sport. The awards are presented to club personalities, teams, coaches and volunteers along with the Borough's national athletes and future young hopefuls of London Youth Games.

Guests arrived at Chessington Community College on Thursday 20th October 2011 to be greeted by sporting demonstrations from Anthony Carter GB Wheelchair tennis player and Jasmine Asghar U14's GB tennis ace; GB Emma Britton and Kingston Trampoline Academy's Beth Anne-Lumb; and local club Chessington Bowmens archers firing indoors.

In the theatre, the stage for the awards - the medals, cups, certificates and trophies awaited their well deserved recipients.

Kingston Athletics

Some of the highlights from the evening, of which there were many, were the speeches for Great Britain athletes Mikael Undrom and Dominique Blaize, both of whom had started their athletic careers at Kingsmeadow Athletics Track.

Mikael spoke of his achievements at the World Downs Syndrome Games where he won Gold in the 100 and 200metres sprint.

Dominique told the audience how injury had almost seen her give up athletics but this year she became the first ever sole winner of the McCain City Challenge bonus by winning her first and second events, setting a new indoor personal best and the team finishing in 1st position.

Dominique,originally a heptathalete was ranked only behind Jessica Ennis. Dominique told us on the evening she will now be concentrating only on long jump due to reocurring injury concerns.

Emma Britton

Emma Britton had a busy and well deserved evening winning Junior Sports Achiever of the Year; Junior Sports Team of the Year; was a London Youth Games individual and team gold medallist before finally ending the evening with a congratulations for representing Great Britain this year.
