Volunteers and members from all sports clubs within the borough are welcome to attend any meetings which are held approximately every six weeks and are attended by the Sports and Recreation Development Officer who keeps us informed of the very latest news and opportunities. if you would like to attend a meeting please telephone the Secretary for the date and venue on 020 8547 5209. you'll be most welcome.
Sport Kingston also contribute towards sports development initiatives as agreed with the Active Kingston Team and also the London Youth Games, as part of their commitment to youth sport
We continuously seek to forge strong links with organisations, clubs and the local authority and also seek new members at every available opportunity. If you would like to become a member of the Sport Kingston then give the Chairman a call on 01306 740729 for an informal chat.
The main event of the Sport Kingston's calendar is the annual Festival of Sport which offers free sporting opportunities including tasters and displays to the residents of the Borough to encourage them to become more active and take up a sport or recreational activity. This event is only possible by working with Kingston Council's Active Kingston Team, sports clubs and leisure centres in the borough. For more information about this year's event, please visit the Festival of Sport 2007 page under Also See below.
In 2005 we actively supported the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Bid by holding opening and closing ceremonies to the Festival of Sport called the Kingston Games. This was a huge success with approximately 1500 people attending and a lot of support for the Bid was raised and we were delighted when it was confirmed that London would be the Host City.
We produce a sports directory for the borough which details many clubs, leisure centres, regional and national governing bodies.
In addition to the above we also organise a Club Night which provides clubs with a huge variety of very relevant and up-to-date information on topics such as funding, clubmark and coach development, we also offer a fun element by including a sports quiz, prizes are on offer which include a cash prize for the winners, All clubs listed in the Sports Directory will receive an invitation. It's our way of saying 'Thank You' for all the hard work clubs carryout throughout the year which often goes unrecognised. If you would like details about this then please contact the Secretary, Terri McAllister on 020 8547 5209.
