The Mayor's Cricket Cup was the brainchild of Councillor Shiraz Mirza and Councillor David Booth who were both passionate about cricket. As a result, in 2001 the first competition was held and has continued to grow, incorporating a girls competition in 2003.
The competition is organised in partnership with Chessington Cricket Club, Surrey County Cricket and the Royal Borough of Kingston and is open to school teams from across the Borough.

The following awards are presented by the Mayor of the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames at the Borough Sports Awards ceremony:
The Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames Sports Award is the highest accolade that can be awarded by the Borough to children and young people in recognition of their sporting achievements.
All recipients have been confirmed by the National Governing Body for their sport as having competed at County level or above.
This year we have created two new awards to recognise the hard work and importance of coaches and volunteers who work within the Borough.
The Volunteer and The Coach of the Year Awards are to honour those people who are so vital to the provision of sport and sporting opportunities within the Borough.
The Jeremy Jellinek Award is presented by Sport Kingston (Kingston Sports Council) to a young person who has not only achieved something special in their chosen sport, but more importantly has put something back into their club or community.
This award is presented by Sport Kingston (Kingston Sports Council) in recognition of the invaluable help carried out behind the scenes, which often goes unnoticed but contributes immensely to the smooth running of a club.
