The finals weekend for the 2007 London Youth Games was held on the weekend of 30 June/1 July and brought an end to a very successful campaign for the Kingston team. Over the 4 months of competition more than 500 children from the borough participated in and had some Youth Games Experience. It was a fantastic year for the Kingston team as we came away with 57 medals and finished 11th in the overall rankings, narrowly missing out on a place in the top 10!
There were some stand out displays from some of the participants and teams. The trampolining team won the team gold with Ross Harding winning individual gold. The gymnastics team won silver and bronze, the boys hockey came second and won silver.
We also had some outstanding performances in the disability sports coming away with a staggering 12 medals from the 4 events. Jonathan Smith, an oustanding wheelchair racer, won double gold for the 100m and 200m with Anthony Austen winning gold in the shot putt. The disability swimming team was fantastic coming away with 7 medals with Lucy Barnes scooping a gold and a bronze.
