Budding footballers from the acclaimed Kingston Little League, along with pupils from local schools, will soon have a playing field to be proud of as improvement works to Dinton Field get underway.
The field, which is located in Dinton Road, Kingston, is very well used by pupils from local schools during the week and is a vital resource for the Kingston Little League at the weekends. Comprehensive public consultation earlier in the year revealed overwhelming support from local residents for the field's facilities to be enhanced.
The Dinton Field Working Party, comprising local people, Councillors and representatives from local schools and the Kingston Little League, is overseeing the work. The work is being funded through a £444,444 grant from the Football Foundation and £150,000 from the London Marathon Trust. Kingston Council is also contributing £50,000 to improvement work.
When work is completed, users will benefit from:
The field has been closed in order for work to take place safely. The improvements should be completed by September 2005.
Councillor Mary Reid, Executive Member for Young People's services at Kingston Council, comments: "It is great to see that work is underway on improving Dinton Field - an incredibly valuable resource for surrounding schools and the young boys and girls who practice their football skills through the Kingston Little League. When the works are completed, these young people will have a facility to be very proud of."
