We are delighted to announce that the Museum has been successful in its lottery bid for new showcases for the art gallery. We have been awarded £31,300. Partnership funding is 10% and we are grateful to the Museum Friends who have agreed to make a contribution.
The showcases combine security with built-in environmental controls for items on display. Lighting is 'state of the art' fibre optics, and retractable undercarriages mean we can move the cases around to suit the needs of different exhibitions.
The award was made under a 'new way of applying', introduced as a pilot in Greater London last Summer. The scheme was designed to encourage more groups to apply for 'small' capital grants. The application process was easier and quicker, and certainly very successful for us.
The cases were installed at the beginning of April 2001.
