Kingston births and marriage indexes online

In a joint initiative between Kingston Register Office and Kingston University's Centre for Local  History Studies a project has been set up that has created a database on the Internet of Kingston's 19th century records of births from 1837 to 1882 and marriages from 1842 to 1902.  The information is available on the Register Office website www.kingston.gov.uk/living/registrar.

Volunteers from the Centre have transcribed the records and Kingston Council is now able to provide the Indexes on-line which will help provide a reference for anyone searching to find the original details from the many thousands that are held.

Local people wishing to trace their family history will find this free information of help in locating the reference for birth entries in the Registers.  A copy certificate can then be obtained for a small fee by post or by calling in person at the Register Office, 35 Coombe Road, Kingston upon Thames.  Application forms are available to download from the website and it is the aim of the Service to deal with applications within two working days.

This project is part of a wider initiative by Kingston University Centre for Local History Studies that brings together sources for Victorian Kingston, including the census, local cemetery records as well as church marriages and burials.  The database, called 'Lifecycles', is available for consultation at Kingston Local History Room, North Kingston Centre, Richmond Road, Kingston upon Thames KT2 5PE.  Tel. 020 8547 6738.
