Animal Locomotion Prints

The Eadward Muybridge Bequest banner

The Animal Locomotion series of prints saw Muybridge work with the University of Pennsylvania to investigate the various phases in the movement of humans and animals, utilising many of the same methods used in his experiments with Stanford's horses. Of the 781 Collotype prints published in the Animal Locomotion Volume, Kingston Museum has 157. Of these prints, 20 have been separately bound by Muybridge himself as a presentation edition of selected favourites, with each of these prints marked as "Author's Edition". The remainder are loose prints from the original publication. All of the prints listed here are collotypes.
