Stephen Hubbard

Stephen Hubbard Stephen Hubbard was a wealthy Kingston resident.  He was a cordwainer (a shoemaker) and ran his own business from Cook's Row on the east of the Market Place.  He owned two cottages and a house in Giggs Hill (near Eden Street), Hook and Stoke D'Abernon in Surrey.

He was a Quaker and was associated with other Quakers including a local man, John Feilder.  He helped with building the Quaker Meeting House in Kingston.  On several occasions he was arrested for attending Quaker meetings, was fined £20 per month for not attending worship in the parish church and in one incident, was beaten and fined for being a Quaker.
