Stephen Feilder traded as a chandler and mercer, so sold goods such as fabrics, candles and soaps. he also owned the Crane Inn in the Market Place, four adjoining tenements and other property bought in 1664 for £60, so he must have been quite prosperous.
He was probably a Presbyterian as he was present at an illegal religious assembly in 1664.
