Stained Glass Windows

Royal Borough

George V Window

This is one of six stained glass windows in Kingston Museum, which once formed part of the old Town Hall in the Market Place, now called the Market House. All the windows were designed by Dr W.E. St Lawrence Finny, who was seven times Mayor of Kingston and a keen local historian.  The windows all had civic or royal themes. They were removed to the Museum after the present Guildhall was completed in 1935.

This window commemorates the confirmation by King George V in 1927 of the Borough's 'Royal' status.

May Games

A detail from the window commemorating the coronation of King George V showing the King of the May.

This window commemorates the coronation of King George V and Queen Mary in 1911.  It depicts characters in Kingston's traditional May Games performed every year in the 15th and 16th century. This detail is of the King of the May.
