The Olympic Torch arrives in the UK on Friday 18 May 2012.  It will travel around the UK for its 70 day journey with at least 8,000 torch bearers running through major cities and towns.

Each torch bearer will carry the torch for 300 metres and will take in National Heritage sites, locations and venues with a sporting significance, schools and school sports days, festivals and events and green spaces.

Each Local Authority has been invited to be part of this celebration. Kingston will twice bask in the glow of the Olympic flame in the final days before the London 2012 Games open. The London 2012 Organising Committee (LOCOG) confirmed on 7 November 2011 that the 2012 Torch Relay will begin the 67th leg of its nation-wide journey in Kingston.

The flame will start the day at the Hook Centre on 24 July 2012, and will be carried aloft through the borough by more than 20 torch bearers before moving on to Richmond.

The detail of the route will be confirmed in February 2012, along with the successful torch bearers.

Details of how you can be part of this celebration will be available on the website after the announcement.

The Torch Bearer nomination process will be announced in May 2011.
