Kingston is a borough bursting with creative talent. In the summer months, this creative energy reaches a peak, with many student and professional shows opening their doors to the public. To reflect this growing body of work and to celebrate the extraordinary range of talent on show, Kingston University, the Borough, Kingston College, FusionArts, Kingston Arts Council and John Lewis Kingston have all come together to launch the first Kingston Summer Arts Season.

KSAS will include key exhibitions at Kingston Museum, the Stanley Picker Gallery, the Penny School Gallery and FusionARTS. It will also feature an exhibition of exciting new work by students on Kingston University's BA Illustration & Animation course. Sponsored by John Lewis Kingston, the exhibition will be launched in their restaurant - The Place to Eat. We hope you will be inspired to explore some of the fantastic art taking place in Kingston.
London based graphic design team Abake will stage a series of interactive, participatory events that will take place at the Gallery and aroundd Kingston, including 'Muybridge Animation' (Wed 1 July) during their residency. 'Crystal Palace Tour of Bentalls' (Saturday 4 July) and '3 Salmons Boat Tour' (Saturday 11 July). For more details or to find out visit the Stanley Picker website.

John Lewis is hosting a special exhibition of innovative new artwork by Kingston University BA Illustration & Animation students who have all created and submitted new work especially for this exhibition. One work will be awarded the John Lewis Kingston Summer Arts Season Prize of £500 at the launch event which will be used as the promotional image for next year’s KSAS programme.
Artist-led workshops will help local groups and individuals create artwork that will be added to the evolving 'Life in a Box' exhibition at Kingston Museum. People will get the chance to work together to produce artwork that represents aspects of their lives, but with one catch - it must all fit inside a box! Come along and get creative on Sat 13 and Sat 20 June.

Green Lily by Faye Gilding
During June and July FusionARTS will show the work of two artists in rotation in the Culture Café gallery. Faye Gilding paints vibrant and dramatic flowers on a large scale (see picture right) She is both a prolific and popular local artist. Nick Kane is an architectural photographer whose work regularly features in the press and recently in the Sunday Times magazine. His portraits of buildings are both beautiful and graphic. From 1 July Elly Wright will be showing her paintings. Based for much of the year in her studio in France, Elly creates a mysterious and ethereal quality to her work. Edward Parkinson uses the human form as the main subject matter. His paintings are strong in colour, emotion and technique.
FusionARTS open its doors to the public for another popular weekend. An ideal opportunity to discover artists at work and to find original art at the best prices. Thirty two studios will be open with painters, jewellers, photographers, ceramicists, designers and textile artists. Come and discover art in the heart of Kingston. This exhibition comprises work by graduating students. Come along and gain an insight into the creative thinking of a new generation and meet the ‘thinkers’ who produced the work. On display will be work that demonstrates the wide range of courses running at the University in art, design and architecture.

Artist Charlotte Amison (pictured right) brings her eponymous show to the cornerHOUSE in Tolworth. Charlotte was brought up in the Middle East where its vibrant culture and colours have had a profound effect on her work. An exciting catwalk show by students from the National Diploma in Fashion & Clothing. This is a collaborative event involving students from music, hair and beauty along with all the students from fashion and clothing. Five09 is the fifth annual exhibition of students completing the BA digital Arts course at Kingston College. Established in 2002 the course covers animation, games design, special effects, installations and video. On show in the exhibition will be computer games, showreels animation and installations.

Tim Judd: That's me in a nutshell
My Life in A Box is an exhibition of hundreds of cardboard boxes each containing a response by a local resident to the theme of the exhibition. The boxes will be displayed in shops, galleries, Kingston College’s School of Art & Design, Kingston Museum and other spaces throughout the Town Centre.
An exhibition of photographs and site specific drawings by Penny Glidewell. Visitor participation included on the opening day of the show.

Kingston College in association with Transport for London, Clear Channel Outdoor and RBK present a range of striking, contemporary graphic images in different media in a bus stop shelter near you! Colour and imagination to brighten your daily journeys.
Acre Road is a charity that provides studios for local artists. During July it will host its open studios event with paintings and sculpture on show.
