
Festivals, feasts, pageants and processions all feature in Kingston’s 800-year Royal History, but how do we celebrate in the 21st century? As London prepares for the Olympics and the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee in 2012, what are the inspirations and influences that determine how we celebrate our lives today’
This year, The John Lewis Summer Photography Competition encourages you to get out there into the midst of the fun with your cameras and get snapping. We want you to capture Kingston in celebratory mood, by photographing some of the events and activities taking place.
To help inspire you, an exhibition of ‘Celebration’ images are now on display at John Lewis “The Place To Eat” restaurant (far end), where entry forms for the photography competition are also available. The finalists will have their work displayed in “The Place To Eat Restaurant” John Lewis Kingston. Selected works will be displayed from Monday September 5th. There will be a prize giving evening on Thursday 8th September 6pm to announce the three winning photographs. Please note there is a category for under 16s as well as adults.

The photographs will be judged by a panel including Sheridan Morley and Philip Hollis – editorial and reportage photographers from Click Photography Workshops and Jenny Tomley MD of John Lewis Kingston.
John Lewis reserve the right to keep and use the winning images in future publicity material. Entries not selected for exhibition can be collected from the Gift List Department from September 5th. Finalists will be required to collect their photographs in person from the Gift list department from October 10th.
The John Lewis Art Prize is managed by a collective of local arts professionals and organisations committed to encouraging participation in the visual arts. The group includes Stanley Picker Gallery (Kingston University), Kingston Museum and Heritage Service, FusionARTS, Penny School Gallery (Kingston College) and the Royal Borough of Kingston Arts Office.
