1. Do I need to be able swim to take part in the activities?
No. All we require is that they are confident in sometimes deep water. Everybody who takes part in activities at Albany Park are required to wear buoyancy aids.
2. Do I have to buy waterproof clothing or lifejackets?
No. All waterproof clothing and buoyancy aids are provided by the centre. You can be assured that they all conform to the necessary standard as required by the AALA (Adventure Activities Licencing Authority) BCU (British Canoe Union) and RYA (Royal Yachting Association).
3. What do I have to wear?
We recommend that old clothes are worn, and feel that sweat shirt and bottoms are best along with an old pair of trainers. Jeans are not recommended as they hold water and become heavy. Obviously if you have your own waterproof clothing/wet suits these can be worn.
4. Is lunch provided?
Not usually. All participants will need to bring a packed lunch, unless you are booking on to the special BBQ Day. Soft drinks machine available.
5. How old does my child need to be?
We welcome all young people over the age of 8.
6. Do you provide activities for Disabled people?
When possible we aim to provide a wide range of activities for young people with special learning needs and physical disabilities. We are able to offer specially adapted courses for groups of disabled young people. We recommend you contact the centre directly to discuss your particular requirements.
7. Do I have to capsize before I am allowed to take part in canoeing/kayaking activities?
No. Before anyone is allowed on the water, the instructors will demonstrate the capsize drill, which will enable you to know what to do in the event of you capsizing. But you will not be required to capsize.
8. Are the staff qualified to teach the activities?
Yes. All our staff are either RYA or BCU qualified to Instructor standard or Senior Instructor, as required by the governing bodies, to instruct the activities they are employed to deliver.
9. Are there shower facilities on site?
Yes. We have heated changing rooms with showers, and plenty of hot water!
10. Is there any parking space?
Yes. We have ample parking space on site. All vehicles are left at the owners own risk. The Centre is not available for parking when picking up/droping off children during holiday courses.
11. Can I bring my own wet suit?
Yes. You can bring your own waterproof clothes and/or wet suit, but you are required to use the centre's buoyancy aids for health and safety reasons.
