Service User Involvement

Supporting People Advisory Group (SPAG)

The Supporting People Team have enabled the formation of a Supporting People Advisory Group (SPAG) made up of interested service user's and ex-service users of supported housing services in Kingston.

SPAG was put into place so people who use Supporting People services could have representatives who could come together and talk about themselves, their service and to give views about things THEY choose on behalf of service users and to enable service users to be more empowered.

The SPAG members will decide what the group should deal with, when and how and where they want to meet. They will also encourage and help, if service users want to get more involved in specific areas of the work and decide who should come to SPAG meetings or to present views at the Service User Forums.

What SPAG might do:

  • Provide a better understanding of Supporting People to other service users.
  • Focus on issues to do with needing housing related support in Kingston.
  • Provide feedback about current services to the Supporting People Team, Providers and Stakeholders.
  • Obtain information about other Supporting People funded services.
  • Give views on what type of new services are required and from whom.
  • Provide an update on any progress i.e. recent events.

Some of the agenda items already discussed at SPAG

  • The participation and involvement of service users within the contract meetings that are held between the service provider and the Supporting People Contract Officer.
  • Issues relating to complaints and the Complaints Process.
  • Involvement with the setting of the agenda for the Service User Forums.
  • Request to delay the start time of the Service User Forums so that travel passes could be used at a later time.
  • Service Users would like to see better lighting and colours used when presentations are made.
  • Discussions around the format and size of booklets and literature produced to make them more accessible.
  • The request for different forms of communication i.e. larger print or audio cassette or CD.
