Traveller communities include Gypsies/Romanies, Irish Travellers, fairground and circus families, housed Travellers and New Age Travellers.
The Gypsy and Traveller Support Service offers help to Gypsies/Travellers who live mainly on the Swallow Park site in Tolworth to maintain their pitches/licence or tenancy and to make use of services where necessary to improve their quality of life. The Service also offers help to Gypsies and Travellers who live in other housing and are also in need of support.
The Gypsy and Traveller Support Service is available five mornings a week (Monday to Friday). We can come and see you in your own home or you can arrange to meet at Guildhall Two in Kingston. You can contact us by phoning 07826 955 967 or by emailing us at gypsy.traveller@rbk.kingston.gov.uk
- We help Gypsies/Travellers who are at serious risk of losing their pitches/licence or tenancy.
- Priority is given to Gypsies/Travellers who live on the Swallow Park site in Tolworth but we also help those who live in other housing in the Kingston borough.
- We assist Gypsies/Travellers to access and make use of services to improve their quality of life and to enable them to live independently in the community.
- We work with Gypsies/Travellers aged 16 years and over.
- Offering advice and support to maintain your pitch/licence or tenancy.
- Working with you to resolve tenancy issues such as rent arrears.
- Checking welfare and benefit entitlements and advising working people, or those of you who receive other incomes, about other available benefits.
- Assisting you in setting up your gas and electricity accounts and looking into the various payment methods available.
- Offering support in contacting education services for those of you with children.
- Offering help with filling in forms and writing letters.
- Putting you in touch with local doctors and dentists where necessary.
- Making sure you are given the opportunity to be referred to Community Care Services or other support services where the need arises.
- Putting you in touch with adult education, literacy and work based education where required.
