In November 2010, we sent out a consultation document to all those on the Housing Register about proposed changes to our Allocations Policy. The closing date was 3 December 2010. Thank you to all those who replied.
The proposed changes went to the Council's Executive Committee on 8 February 2011. The changes were approved and came into force on 1 April 2011.
In brief, the proposed changes are:
- Giving higher priority to some applicants at risk of becoming homeless to prevent the Council having to provide temporary accommodation.
- Registering all accepted homeless households in temporary accommodation for `Autobid` - an automatic bidding system, to assist their move to permanent accommodation.
- Giving top priority to more tenants who would like to downsize to smaller accommodation to free up more homes for families who need larger homes.
- Offers of social housing outside of Kingston and in the South West London sub-region, to be considered suitable where it is reasonable for the applicant to accept.
