Help with Rent and Deposit Advance Payments

From the Benefits Agency

As a means to secure advance rent and deposit payments you can apply for a Budgeting Loan from the Department of Works and Pensions Social Fund.

You can ‘pick-up’ an application form from your local Social Security Office at:

From the Council

The Council’s Housing Advice Service is currently considering households who have expressed a wish to secure rented accommodation for help with those ‘advance’ payments private landlords seek.

The Housing Advice Service operates a rent and deposit loan agreement.  This scheme is targeted to households who meet the criteria of ‘priority need’ and where their threatened homelessness may not be prevented.  This assistance will be offered to households who do not have access to their own financial means to secure alternative rented accommodation.

A household may qualify for this assistance through a letting arranged by the Housing Advice Service with a private landlord.  The Housing Advice Service would ensure that any rent charged under such a letting would be determined by the Rent Officer Service as eligible for benefit to ensure an affordable letting.  Any such letting arranged through the Housing Advice Service would be sought for a minimum of one year.

If you wish to discuss the help available with deposit and rent-in-advance payments please contact the Housing Advice Service on 020 8547 5468 or on email at housingadvice@rbk.kingston.gov.uk
