More about Home Ownership Schemes

  • Right to Buy


    A scheme for council tenants wishing to buy the council property they currently occupy with a maximum discount allowance of £16,000.

    Availability:

    Open to secure council tenants (excluding those in sheltered accommodation).
      
  • Grants to Move


    A scheme to help secure council tenants buy a home of their own in the private sector. The scheme provides cash grants to tenants who could not otherwise afford to buy. The amount of grant depends on length of tenancy and number of bedrooms you have in your current council property.

    Availability:

    Available to secure council tenants.
     
  • MyChoice HomeBuy


    This scheme provides up to 50% of the value of a property as an equity loan. It enables applicants to apply for a mortgage with any lender they choose. Interest on the loan is set at an interest rate of 1.75% per year.

    Availability:

    Available to secure council and housing association tenants and to people registered on the Kingston Housing Register and key workers.
     
  • Ownhome


    This scheme is provided by a partnership between Places for People and The Co-operative Bank and gives applicants the chance to take up to 40% of the value of a proerty in an equity loan. No interest is payable on the equity loan for the first 5 years. After 5 years a low rate would be paid on the sum increasing to 3.75% per year from year 11.

    Availability:

    Available to secure council and housing association tenants and to people registered on the Kingston Housing Register and key workers.

  • New Build HomeBuy (previously known as shared ownership)

    Through this scheme (previously known as shared ownership) you can buy a share in a property on a new development. You usually pay a mortgage on the part you own and a subsidised rent on the part you don't own. You can increase the share until you own the property outright.

    Availability:

    Available to secure council and housing association tenants and people registered on the Kingston Housing Register and key workers.
     
  • Key Workers


    Housing options for key workers working in partnership with Tower Homes:

         New Build Homebuy
         Key Worker Open Market Homebuy
         Intermediate Rent

    Availability:

    Available to government recognised key workers working in the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames and registered on the Kingston Housing Register and with Tower Homes.
