The Incentive to Move Scheme applies to any permanent council or housing association tenants living in Kingston, wishing to move from a two bedroom or larger property to a one bedroom home or sheltered housing. It also applies to tenants wishing to move from a property with four or more bedrooms to a two bedroom home.
If your home is too large and you would like to move somewhere which is more manageable, we can help you find a suitable home, arrange and pay for your removals and pay up to £350 for new carpets and curtains. This service aims to take the stress out of moving by providing you with personal assistance from the time you apply for a move until you have settled into your new home. If you move into a Kingston Council property, we may even be able to have your new home decorated according to your own taste.
You may wonder why we go to this trouble to help tenants move to smaller accommodation. Our reasons are two-fold. Firstly, we are proud to be able to offer tenants, particularly older tenants whose families have grown up and left home, the chance to move to a new home which better meets their needs. Secondly, this enables us to house more families who are homeless and living in temporary housing.
Tenants moving under this scheme to smaller accommodation provided or arranged by the Royal Borough of Kingston will be classed as "under-occupiers", and are entitled to a grant once they have moved. The amount of the grant is dependant on the size of the property they have given up:
