Kingston Churches Housing Association

Kingston Churches Housing Association (KCHA) is a local housing association which mostly operates in the borough but also has some properties for older people in Elmbridge and Guildford. The Association was founded by a group of Christians in 1966 and has been providing homes for those in housing need ever since.

The Association currently owns and manages approximately 200 properties in the borough which are mainly self-contained bedsits and one and two bedroomed flats. They also have a small number of family sized homes. The Association is able to find homes for single persons, single parents, couples and families in their general housing, and they also meet the needs of the elderly in two sheltered housing schemes.

In the borough they have properties in Chessington, Kingston, New Malden, Surbiton, Tolworth and Worcester Park.

London and Quadrant Housing Trust was set up in 1963. Today, London and Quadrant and its non-charitable associate, Tower Homes own and manage over 27,000 properties spread throughout 22 London boroughs and 50 local authority areas in the home counties of Surrey, Hampshire and Berkshire.

The Trust has a variety of types of homes throughout the areas in which it works including sheltered housing and residential care homes. In the borough it has approximately 100 properties which are mainly one and two bedroomed houses and a small number of three bedroomed houses.

When the Trust has a vacancy in one of its properties it will usually consider letting this home to people nominated by the local authority. A limited number of properties are also let to people referred to the Trust by specialist housing agencies.

Moat Housing Society was established over 30 years ago and provides over 4,000 general needs and sheltered housing units across the south east and in London. The Society is part of Moat Housing Group an organisation that encompasses seven member associations covering supported housing, care and repairs services, low cost home ownership and general needs rented accommodation.

Moat has approximately 100 properties within the borough including three bedroom houses and one and two bedroom flats. All properties have full central heating and either their own gardens or access to communal gardens.

Richmond Churches Housing Trust was set up in 1967 by representatives of local churches who were concerned about the lack of good quality, reasonably-priced, rented housing in the area, especially for the elderly.

The Trust started with one house converted into four self contained bedsits and now owns 2,000 homes to rent.

Most of these homes are in Richmond but the Trust owns approximately 300 homes in the borough. These properties include self-contained bedsits, and one, two, three and four bedroomed homes. The Trust also provides sheltered housing for the elderly, residential homes and hostels for those in need of a high level of care and support. The Trust has properties in Kingston, Surbiton, New Malden and Tolworth areas.

As a charity, the Trust can only consider applications from people with an income of less than £20,000 or savings of less than £40,000.

The Council owns nearly 5,000 rented homes in the borough and provides housing for single people, couples, families, older people and people with disabilities and special needs.

Properties are owned in all parts of the borough but the majority are in the Kingston and Chessington areas. The Council owns relatively few houses, so the majority of vacancies are of flats and maisonettes without gardens.

Thames Valley Housing was set up 30 years ago to provide and manage good quality homes to meet a variety of housing needs, but especially to relieve homelessness and poor housing conditions.

Thames Valley Housing owns and manages over 5,500 properties in west and south west London and the home counties of Surrey, Hampshire and Berkshire.

This includes over 2,000 shared ownership properties. The Association also has a small but growing range of special projects for people who need extra care and support.

In the borough, the Association has approximately 90 properties for renting. These are mainly one and two bedroomed flats, but also a few three and four bedroomed houses. Two group homes for adults with mental health problems have also been developed. These are managed by local organisations.

Threshold Housing Association was originally set up in 1974 as a small locally based organisation in Tooting specifically offering housing to single people. Threshold grew and now operates throughout south west London, central London and Surrey, providing a variety of homes and services.

Today they own and manage nearly 4,000 properties including a variety of special needs housing.

Threshold has been working in the borough for 10 years and now owns over 100 properties for rent in the borough. These mainly consist of two and three bedroom houses in small groups, spread throughout the borough. There are a number of one and two bedroom flats in Chessington, Tolworth and central Kingston. Threshold recently joined the London & Quadrant (L&Q) Group.

Town and Country Housing Group (TCHG) was established in 1989 and through its two subsidiary associations, High Weald Housing Association and White Cliffs Housing Association, provides nearly 6,000 quality affordable homes across Kent, Sussex and Surrey.  TCHG also encompasses Daisy Lettings which provides and manages homes for key workers and market renting.

The Association has 20 properties within the borough.

Wandle Housing Association provides homes including supported housing and low cost home ownership in 10 London boroughs across south London. The Association has over 3,265 self-contained properties. There are currently approximately 50 properties in the borough, mainly in Surbiton and New Malden. Most are one bedroomed flats for older people.

Warden Housing is a division of Home Group, one of the largest providers of housing, care and support services in England. Warden own or manage over 13,000 rented homes in the south of England, and are currently working with a number of local authorities on estate regeneration projects, providing over 600 new homes in 2006/07.

In the borough, they own 39 purpose built flats located at Mulberry Court, Lovelace Gardens, Surbiton. These consist of three blocks of three storeys, each with one bedroom and two bedroom flats. All flats have gas central heating and upstairs flats have balconies. Each flat is also allocated a garage or parking space.

Mulberry Court is in a quiet part of Surbiton, off Upper Brighton Road, within 15 minutes walk of the town centre and railway station.

The William Sutton Trust was founded in 1900 by the Victorian entrepreneur, William Richard Sutton. Now known as William Sutton Housing Association, the Trust aims to provide low-income tenants with secure, affordable housing in thriving communities.

The Housing Association owns and manages over 15,000 properties throughout England with over 100 properties in the borough. The properties are located at Kestrel Close, Dukes Avenue, Acre Road and David Twigg Close in Kingston and Leatherhead Road in Chessington and range from one and two bedroomed flats to three, four and five bedroomed houses.

The Housing Association’s focus is directed towards the provision of general needs affordable housing for families, couples and single persons. A full range of services, including rent payment facilities and repairs reporting, is provided from their locally based office at Kestrel Close, Kingston.
