An alternative mutual exchange service is provided by a new scheme called Homeswapper.
HomeSwapper is the UK's largest active database of social housing tenants looking to exchange homes (a 'mutual exchange' or 'swap'). HomeSwapper is operated by Scout Solutions who operated moveUK, the national social housing mobility service, on behalf of the Department of Communities and Local Government (DCLG) up until January 2007 when the DCLG closed the Homeswap mutual exchange services which had been running for some time by moveUK and, prior to that, by HOMES. Recognising the need of many tenants in the social housing sector for a good mutual exchange service, Scout Solutions decided to launch HomeSwapper - follow the link below to find out more.
However it is also possible to arrange a move yourself by swapping your home with another council or housing association tenant. Once permission has been granted, you then take on each other's tenancies, accepting the properties as they are and arranging your own removals.
Please contact your estate manager if you find a swap.
