Research Governance Framework in Kingston

The Research Governance Framework sets out the standards and procedures for anyone involved in research.

Research includes any study, survey or consultation intended to gather information which involves direct access to service users, their families, carers, staff or to their data.  Whilst the Council wishes to encourage research as a valuable learning tool, it has a duty of care to those who participate in research.  It is in everyone’s interest to ensure that research is carried out to high standards.

In general the Council is required to:

  • Know what research is being done
  • Ensure the dignity, rights, safety and wellbeing of researchers and participants are protected
  • Safeguard the researcher’s integrity and make sure they meet research standards
  • Take full responsibility for how research is carried out
  • Record all research carried out on a national register

Kingston Council  is a member of the South West London Research Governance Consortium (SWLRGC).  The SWLRGC is made up of five local authorities; Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames, London Borough of Croydon, London Borough of Merton, London Borough of Richmond and London Borough of Sutton.
