The Research Governance Framework defines research “as the attempt to derive generalisable new knowledge by addressing clearly defined questions with systematic and rigorous methods.” This includes any study, survey or consultation intended to gather information which involves direct access to service users, their families, carers, staff or to their data. All studies and projects that meet this definition are subject to Research Governance; this includes consultation.
Research undertaken by those not employed by Kingston Council is subject to the Research Governance process.
Research undertaken by Council staff is also covered, although a proportionate approach will be used, whereby only the most risky and sensitive research is subject to close scrutiny.
