Research Governance Framework
If you are thinking of carrying out research in social care or housing you need to contact Kingston’s Research Governance Framework Co-ordinator who will check if your project is covered by the Framework. If it is, you may need to submit a Research Governance Framework Application form and Proposal to the South West London Research Governance Consortium via email.
What is Research Governance?
Research Governance is a way the quality of research can be checked and the rights of those involved can be protected. The Department of Health’s Research Governance Framework (RGF) for Health and Social Care sets out a number of standards and procedures for anyone involved in research, in five main areas:
- Science : ensuring independent review of design and methods
- Ethics : ensuring dignity, rights, safety and well-being of research participants
- Information : ensuring full and free public access to information on the research and its findings
- Health and Safety : ensuring the safety of research participants, researchers and other staff
- Finance : ensuring financially probity and compliance with the law in the conduct of research
The Research Governance Framework (RGF) is a Department of Health requirement to promote good practice and sets out roles and responsibilities of key people in the research process. It ensures that standards are maintained and responsibilities are understood.
