Cranstoun  

Drug Interventions Programme for individuals with substance misuse issues in contact with the Criminal Justice System.  Services offered include:

  • Drug related advice, information, support and harm reduction interventions.
  • One to one support.Support for service users on Drug Rehabilitation Requirement (DRR) or for service users identified as Prolific and Priority Offenders (PPO’s).
  • Support for service users in custody, prison/those released from prison with substance misuse issues.

CDAT  

Multi-disciplinary statutory drug and alcohol service.  Services offered include:

  • Assessment and care planning including complex needs
  • Assessment and joint working with Mental Health Services for service users with dual diagnosis.
  • Assessment and referral to in-patient detoxification, residential rehabilitation for 12 weeks o structured day programme or other community based services.
  • Drug and alcohol related advice, information, support and harm reduction interventions.
  • Community prescribing programmes and community based detoxification

How to access this service

Referrals from Primary Care.

Service specification

Low-intensity alcohol treatment service,

combining an assessment with an online

intervention for increasing and higher risk

drinkers (not dependent).

Tier(s) of service

Tier 2.

Locality covered/catchment area

Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames.

Eligibility criteria inclusions:

  • Registered with a GP in Kingston.
  • Patients must be 18 or older.
  • Score of 5 or more on AUDIT C alcohol screening tool and or score of 8 or more on AUDIT.
  • Men drinking 21 or more units/women drinking 14 or more units a week.
  • Must be willing to receive help with their drinking.

This service is only available to adults who are

registered with a GP in Kingston and referred

by their practice. The service will be a pilot

development until 2011.

Exclusions

  • Severe alcohol dependency likely to require detox.
  • Life-threatening physical complications of alcohol e.g. liver failure.
  • Severe co-existing drug misuse.
  • Severe co-existing mental health problems.

Treatment modalities and care programmes offered

  • Assessment.
  • Introduction to DYD Kingston website.
  • DYD Kingston website contains the following components:
    • Motivational Interviewing.
    • Computerised Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CCBT).
    • Behavioural Self-Control.
  • Advice on computer/internet access points in Kingston.
  • Two follow-up phone calls (technical support).
  • Follow-up assessment at 3 months.
