The partnership is committed to developing meaningful service user involvement in substance misuse treatment services in Kingston. We recognise that those in treatment and those who have identified a need for treatment have the right to become involved in activities that affect their health and well-being. We respect the unique expertise and experiences of users and understand the health, esteem and other personal benefits that involvement can bring.
During 2009-10 we successfully appointed four Service User Council members. These are enthusiastic, motivated and committed individuals who bring a range of skills, knowledge and expertise to the Strategic Partnership for Alcohol and Drugs.
The role of the Service User Council is most importantly about making sure that service users voices are heard and service user views and ideas are taken into account throughout the planning and provision of services in the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames.
Each Council member is linked to a substance misuse service in the borough to liaise with the service users and support their involvement within that service. They also attend relevant strategic meetings to represent the views of substance misuse service users and contribute to important decision making.
Any service user in the Borough can contact their representative to highlight any concerns or complements about their service or seek support in improving or shaping the service they receive.
