What Kingston Council and partners are doing

Kingston Council is committed to working to improve the health of people in Kingston in partnership with local health services and voluntary services. Kingston's Choosing Health action plan is the overarching plan for Kingston's Community Leadership Forum and related Partnership Boards in delivering the government's White Paper Choosing Health. It sets out actions required by all partner agencies that are necessary to improve the health of our local population and reduce health inequalities.

For some information on the state of Kingston's health see our document below on Kingston’s Health Profile and our other links for  information about Choosing Health.

Our services are all being developed in line with guidance from the National Institute of Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE).

Public Health Information

From January 2003, the Government required Local Authorities to scrutinise Health Service provision in their area. The Royal Borough of Kingston set up a Health Overview and Scrutiny Panel to carry out this function. The Panel has been meeting regularly since November 2002.

In broad terms, the main aim of Health Scrutiny is to act as a lever to improve the health of local people in its widest sense. It is about looking at the whole health system, not just services provided, commissioned or managed by the NHS.
