The purpose of the Parent and Carer Panel is to improve the services for children and young people with disabilities.
The main tasks for the Parent and Carer Panel are:
To monitor and influence the services for children and young people with disabilities in Kingston:
a) Education, health, social service and leisure providers;
b) Relevant voluntary organisations; and
c) Legal changes and/or other developments outside Kingston;
To ensure Panel views are communicated to relevant service providers:
To monitor and influence the implementation of the Integrated Services for Children with Disabilities and Complex Health Needs Strategy:
To ensure parents/carers are represented on relevant groups involved with the Integrated Service.
To ensure there is regular consultation with all parents/carers of children and young people with disabilities in Kingston:
To agree Parent and Carer Panel goals for improvement of service. Goals to be SMART i.e. specific, measurable, achievable, relevant and timely.
To ensure discussions and goals are representative of wider service users and represent views relating to a range of disabilities/ages/ethnic backgrounds.

It is important that the Panel is fully representative of parents/carers of children with different disabilities, ages and ethnic backgrounds.
As well as the regular more formal proceedings, the Parent and Carer Panel arranges occasional social meetings so it is a good opportunity for parents/carers to make their views hears and also meet other parents/carers of children and young people with disabilities in Kingston.
The group will meet twice per school term in the evening for about 90 minutes.
At each meeting a volunteer will act as Chair, introducing agenda items and ensuring discussions remain focused i.e. progress to agreeing/updating goals and actions.
Meetings with commence with an update from the Manager of the Integrated Service for Children with Disabilities and Complex Health Needs.
