The Buddy Scheme

The Buddy Scheme based at Kingston Volunteer Bureau provides a befriending scheme, which aims at enhancing leisure opportunities for people with learning difficulties. This involves using volunteers to give one-to-one support to enable members to undertake activities of their choice. This could be as simple as going shopping or having a cup of tea and a chat. It could mean going out for a drink in the pub, having a meal in a cafe or going to see a film at the cinema.

Some of our members have been to football matches, had Jacuzzis, or been to the coast with their buddies. One buddy and partner have been sewing patchwork quilts together.

Whatever a service-user's interest we try and find a buddy who likes doing the same kind of activities.

Co-ordinator: Jan Deane
